Did you know... That five of the WOW-EFFECTers, Tabea, Ferdinand, Anissa, Phan and Xiaoji, are Actors Without Borders? They live in Kleve, Germany and travel to Nijmegen each week for rehearsals and our social gatherings. They all are students at the Hochschule Rhein-Waal, a very international University of Applied Science, and this led our news to spread to Germany. Check the video below to hear about 'Bedtime Stories' from the campus radio show (in German) or read along for the English translation of the broadcast. Have you ever wondered what it's like at one of our rehearsals? If you follow us on Facebook, you have probably noticed that most pictures from our rehearsals look rather serious and stern. We are hard at work, mind you, but that doesn't keep us from having tons of fun! Last weekend we had our very first theatercamp, meaning two whole days of theater action - 6 to 8 hours rehearsal and a lot of socializing aferwards. During one of those days, we shot some footage of how we work and how we unwind ... Have a look!
Wow-Effect started its journey on April 1, 2014. And no, it's not a joke! Everything began in a cold, dark room, with an idea by Tulya Kavaklioglu, the founder of WOW-EFFECT. She posted a call for auditions around Nijmegen, expecting lots of people to show up. But only a few did. It was not a surprise that they were not impressed by her cold, dark room requiring WE to find a new home for its meetings . So people left... The initial spark Except one very special girl: Tanya de Kruijff, WE's very own playwright. Tulya and Tanya found strength from each other's presence, which led to the creation of the first real project of WE, an original play called 'Bedtime Stories'. Two was still a small number though, considering what the two had in [...]
The WOW-EFFECT Theater Group has announced the main cast for its upcoming original production of BEDTIME STORIES by playwright Tanya de Kruijff, which is set to make its premiere on the stage of De Lindenberg on May 30, 2015. The performance will be held in English. BEDTIME STORIES is produced by Tanya de Kruijff and Tulya Kavaklıoğlu and directed by Ruud Mol. Tickets for the Saturday performance can be be bought here, tickets for the Sunday performance here. Bedtime Stories is a story taking place at the thin border between love and hate, despair and hope, the bitterness of reality and the sweetness of imagination. It is a world where only a few might find the strength to see the light at the end of this thin line. A world of joy and pain magically fit [...]
After months of preparation and rehearsals, we are finally in the most thrilling phase of production: The Casting. But because of our creative approach to this production, our auditions are a little different than what you would expect from your typical "Will they make it on Broadway?"-movie. Instead of standing in front of the casting directors, doing a monologue and then awaiting the call, our actors got to work on the script, play a few different roles, got feedback on their play and are now encouraged to choose the parts they feel the most strongly for. Over the course of this last weekend, every actor was asked to send in their three top choices of characters they would like to play. Our team of producers, writers and the director will then choose [...]
After a few months of preparation, our writing staff finally finished Act I and Act II of our original play Bedtime Stories. In the last few weeks we have already been busy with trying out new scenes and on this week's meeting, we will rehearse scene we have practised beforehand. This will be the first step for us to find out who could play which part and will also help each actor to develop a feeling for the characters, before we will be holding our internal auditions in February. Planning and writing this script has been a lot of fun and seeing vague ideas getting turned into realistic, identifiable characters is an amazing feeling. Our lead writer, Tanya , has done a great job with writing very emotional scenes and we are [...]
